Senior midfielder Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN) recorded her 200th career goal as she led the University of Redlands women's lacrosse team to a 19-9 rout of Denison University (OH) on Friday at Farquhar Field. After jumping out to an early 3-0 lead, the Bulldogs never faced a deficit while capturing their eighth win in a row to remain undefeated.
Smith provided her biggest offensive output of the season with seven goals en route to reaching the milestone, which is the first of its kind in Redlands program history. She currently owns the Bulldog career records for points (230), goals (200), and draw controls (183).
After the Big Red of Denison closed within one, Redlands enjoyed a run of six unanswered goals to garner a 9-2 lead with 14:17 left in the opening period. During this stretch, Smith found the back of the net on three occasions.
Freshman midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) rattled off three of her four goals during Redlands' five-score spurt that lasted from 1:30 to go in the opening half through the 19-minute mark of the second. In addition, this span included three Bulldog netters in the final 90 seconds of the first frame.
Seven other Bulldogs provided at least one score in the victory.
Sophomore attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) and McCaslin racked up five draw controls each, while junior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) tallied four ground balls.
Junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) contributed six saves in 60 minutes of action.
Redlands (8-0) takes on the Wildcats of Linfield College (OR) in a 7 p.m. regional showdown on Thursday, March 24, at Farquhar Field.
