Redlands Women’s Lacrosse Rolls past Berry

The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team began its three-game road trip across the south with a 17-7 victory against Berry College (GA) earlier today.  The Bulldogs broke an early 2-2 tie with back-to-back goals and never relinquished control against the Vikings.

With the score knotted at two apiece, junior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) and sophomore midfielder Katie Colasurdo (Eugene, OR) found the back of the net for consecutive scores within 72 seconds of each other.

Although the Vikings responded with a free-position goal just three minutes later to make it 3-4, this was as close as they would move through the final whistle.

Redlands finished out the opening period with offensive spurts of four unanswered and three straight goals to garner an 11-4 lead at the break.

The Vikings began the second stanza with a slight 3-2 edge in scoring but the Bulldogs maintained the lead at 13-7 with 15:30 left in the game.

Redlands enjoyed another offensive outburst with four consecutive goals in the final 15 minutes, as sophomore attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) unleashed her second and third scores during this span.  Freshman midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) put an exclamation point on her second collegiate effort by initiating this run with her fourth goal of the game to lead all scorers.

Freshman midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Lake Forest, CA) led the Maroon and Gray with four draw controls, with Prickett recording the most caused turnovers among the squad with three.

Junior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA earned the victory as the primary protector of the Redlands goal.  In more than 55 minutes of action, she racked up nine saves, while sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Honeycutt (Portland, OR) finished out the game with one save in the final 4:47.

Redlands (2-0) heads to Sewanee (TN) for Friday's game against Carthage College (WI) at 10 a.m.
