Wrapping up a very busy week of competition, the University of Redlands women’s lacrosse team suffered a tough 9-18 loss to SUNY Potsdam on Friday afternoon.
During the first half, the Bulldogs battled well against he Bears, matching them goal for goal through the final two minutes of the period.
Potsdam entered the second half with a 9-7 lead but Redlands pulled within one with a goal by sophomore midfielder Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN). The Bears responded by blowing it open with eight unanswered goals.
Redlands gained three goals from Smith and two scores from
junior attack player Diana Frey (Silver Spring, MD). Senior
midfielder Lauren Matta (Holyoke, MA), senior midfielder Lisa
O’Kane (San Diego, CA), senior midfielder Ali Chope (San
Francisco, CA) and junior midfielder Haley Kern (Portland, OR) each
record one goal.
Matta also tallied four draw controls, three ground balls and two
caused turnovers.
Sophomore goalkeeper Katrina Hostak (Maple Valley, WA) came up with six saves between the pipes in 60 minutes of action.
The Bulldogs enjoy some time off from competition and then host Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on April 8 at 7 p.m.
