U of R Women's Golf takes home Jekyll Island Invitational Title | Hannah Jugar places third

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team showed why they are ranked as one of the best teams in the country over the weekend winning the 24-team Jekyll Island Invitational by five strokes over Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rival Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) thanks to a second round 299 (second lowest) and a final round 302 (lowest) to help them improve their 4th place standing after round one.  

Round 1

The Bulldogs sat in fourth place with No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 8 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) placing in the top two spots and No. 5 Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) in third. The Bulldogs shot a very respectable 300 with Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) and Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) sitting in a tie for eighth with two over par 74s.  

Round 2

Across the second 18 Redlands improved by a stroke moving up into third place with No. 27 Sewanee as the new leader and the Sagehens in second. Jugar and York continued to pace the Bulldogs with two more 74s as they moved up into a tie for seventh, only three strokes behind the leaders.

Round 3

In the final round the Bulldogs held steady as teams around them faltered, moving from third into the top spot in a tournament that included seven of Golfstat's 10 highest-ranked teams. Redlands shot a 302 which was their highest score of any round, but the next lowest score was a 303 from sixth place Centre College who finished 22 strokes behind the Bulldogs.

On the individual side Jugar moved into a tie for a podium spot in third following her lowest round of her tournament at 73, giving her a three-round 221 (74-74-73).  

After a final round 75, York finished in a tie for sixth.  She was the second Bulldog to finish inside the Top-10.  The other three Bulldogs were Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) who shot a 226 (75-75-76) finishing in 11th, Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) in a tie for 25th with a 231 (77-76-78), and first-year Jizelle Robledo (La Habra, CA) who was tied for 59th shooting a 242 (81-78-83).

The Bulldogs Will have 13 days off before they head to Pomona for SCIAC No. 2 hosted by Occidental College on Saturday and Sunday, April 1-2.
