Women's Golf Takes Home Fall Preview Title by Eight Strokes | Kendall Nicholson Finishes 2nd

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team, ranked No. 7 in the Mizuno/WGCA Division III National Polls came away with their second title within a week of each other Monday after they won the Division III Preview Tournament, which took place at the Mission Inn Resort and Club (El Campeon Golf Course).

With the Preview Title, the Bulldogs have now won both of their fall tournaments after they won the California State Intercollegiate last week. Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) now has a pair of Top-2 finishes to start the season after she won the individual title last week.   

The Bulldogs have now won back-to-back titles, taking home the Preview hardware after posting a 306-299 (605), which beat University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) by eight strokes.  The Maroon and Grey jumped up from third place after round one in which they shot a 306, putting them five shots behind the leader Washington University (WUSTL).  They also trailed UT Dallas by two strokes. 

On the individual side of things after round one, Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) was tied for second-place with a first-round 74. First-year Jizelle Robledo (La Habra, CA) was tied for 12th with a 76 and Nicholson was the third Bulldog in the Top-20 as she sat tied for 19th with a 77. 

It was all Bulldogs on Day 2 action making their comeback thanks to a 299, which was seven strokes better than Washington and Lee University who had the second-best, second-round score at 306. Their 299 was 15 strokes better than the leader to start the day, WUSTL, and 10 better than UT Dallas, who maintained their second-place standing. 

The Bulldogs saw four players land inside the Top-15 with Nicholson shooting a second-round 70 that moved her from a tie for 19th into second place with a two-round 147. She also led the field late in the second round moving up 22 spots, but was unable to hold on.  Jugar came in tied for eighth with a 74-76 (150), Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) and Robledo tied for 15th with a pair of 154 two-round totals. York made a big move between both rounds, going from a tie for 31st, after a 79 first round, to a tie for 15th (75).  Robledo, in just her second collegiate tournament was consistent with a 76-78.  Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) was the last Bulldog to score, finishing in a tie for 72nd after she went 81-88.    

The Bulldogs will play their third tournament in less than two weeks as they return to California for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Invitational at San Dimas Country Club this Saturday-Sunday, September 24-25.
