Bulldog Women’s Golf wins CA State Intercollegiate | Kendall Nicholson takes home Individual Title

VENTURA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team opened their fall schedule in a big way making history at the CA State Intercollegiate hosted by California Lutheran University winning the two-day event with a 564, which included a program low 275 in Round 1.

Redlands shot -12 under as a team beating fellow 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship Qualifiers No. 6 Pomona-Pitzer by seven strokes (571) and No. 11 Claremont-M-S by 26 strokes (590).  The Bulldogs shattered the single-round program record of 287 by twelve strokes, previously held by Hannah Jugar, Malia Kiger, Gabrielle Kiger, and Annie Hay coming during SCIAC No. 1 in 2020-21.  On top of that they broke the programs two-round record by 19 strokes, which was set last year in 2021-22 with a 583 by Hannah Jugar, Iris Liu, Andrea York, and Gabrielle Kiger during this same event.    

        

The Maroon and Grey who come into the year ranked No. 7 in the Mizuno/WGCA Division III Preseason National Polls got off on the right foot Monday-Tuesday seeing three players finish inside the Top 5.  Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) led the field winning the Individual Title with a 137 thanks to a blistering 64 (9 Birdies), which tied the program low for a single round (Caroline Ordian – 64 (2015) | Western New Mexico Invite).  She finished with a 64-73 (137) beating Katelyn Vo (Pomona-Pitzer | 138) and Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) (Redlands | 139).  Jugar came away with a 68-71, becoming one of five players to shoot a sub-70 round across the two-days, while making her way into the record books as the only player with a 68 single round score.    

Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) was the third highest finisher taking 4th as she went 70-73 for a 143.  She was -1 for the tournament and was one of four players to finish in the red.   

First-year Jizelle Robledo (La Habra, CA) made her collegiate debut in the fifth spot for the Bulldogs and what an appearance she had finishing in a tie for 7th following a 73-72 (145).  She moved up three spots on the final day shooting +1 for the tournament.    

Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) was the last Bulldog to score and after a 78 to open the tournament, would bounce back shaving off five strokes for a 73, which jumped her 10 spots into a tie for 18th.

First-year Chloe Phan (Milpitas, CA) also made her collegiate debut playing as an individual.  She finished in 22nd with a 75-77.   

Redlands has a short break as they begin their preparations for the Division III Preview Tournament, set to take place September 18-19 in Howey-in-the-Hills, FL (Mission Hills Resort).
