U of R Women’s Golf Beats Cal Lutheran in Dual Match to open 2022

POMONA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team got their season underway over the weekend beating Cal Lutheran University in a head to head matchup 305-318.

A pair of rounds were supposed to be played but the first was canceled on Saturday due to darkness forcing the match to be decided by Sunday's round.  Four Bulldogs finished within the Top 4 led by sophomore Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) who put together her second lowest round of her collegiate career posting a 73 (+1), which beat out the 2nd place finishers by three strokes.  Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) came in a tie for 2nd with CLU's Claire Cornejo with a 76 (+4) and Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) and Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) both posted 78's (+6) to finish in a tie for 4th.     

Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) was the next finisher for the Maroon and Grey totaling a 79 (+7), which put her in 7th and Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) was right behind her by a stroke coming in with an 80 (+8).  The final Bulldog to score was Gabrielle Sanchez who finished with an 83 (+11), putting her in 11th as she beat out three Regals.         

Redlands now turns their sites on the opening Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament on February 26-27 at Olivas Links Golf Club in Ventura, CA.
