Malia Kiger takes 2nd at Preview Tournament | No. 6 Redlands finishes 2nd

HOUSTON, Texas – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team traveled down to Houston, TX for the Division III Preview Tournament being held at Bay Oaks Country Club, but saw their trip cut short due to inclement weather forcing their second day of action to be canceled.

Due to Round 2 being stopped mid play the tournament reverted to day one results, which means the Maroon and Grey finished 2nd overall with a 301 falling to Carnegie Mellon by a stroke who posted a 300.  They did compete against a strong field however tying with George Fox University (301) and beating Methodist (302), Washington and Lee (309), Washington Uni.-St. Louis (311), Texas-Dallas (313), Mary Hardin-Baylor (314), York College (314), UC Santa Cruz (314), Christopher Newport (317), Berry College (322), Grinnell College (323), Rhodes College (325), Huntingdon College (328), and Southwestern University (333).

Senior Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) led the Bulldogs playing as an individual and finished 2nd overall in the field shooting a 72 (E) two strokes off the leader Alison Takamiya (George Fox University) who shot a 70 (-2).  She finished her round -1 on Par 3's (2.75), +3 on Par 4's (4.30) and -2 on Par 5's (4.50).  She totaled 13 pars on the day with a birdie and an eagle.

Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) wasn't far off shooting a 74 (+2) that put her in a tie for 7thGabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA), Malia's sister followed in 11th after shooting a 75 (+3) and was joined by Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) who also shot a 75 (+3).  Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) was in the middle of the pack shooting a 77 (+5) that placed her in a tie for 24th and Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA) rounded out the scoring with a 78 (+6) that put her in a tie for 32nd.       

As a team Redlands shot +5 on Par 3's (No. 4 | 3.25), +7 on Par 4's (No. 1 | 4.14), and +7 on Par 5's (No. 4 | 5.35), while totaling 64 Pars (No. 1) and 7 Birdies (No. 7).   

Redlands wraps up a strong fall season where they took 3rd at the CA State Intercollegiate (293-290), 2nd at the Redlands Fall Shootout (293-292) and 2nd at the Division III Preview Tournament (301).  Individually they saw Jugar win the State Intercollegiate (70-67) and take 2nd at the Fall Shootout (71-70).  Then to wrap up the season M. Kiger finishes 2nd at the Preview Tournament (72). 

The Maroon and Grey return to competition in February for their spring season.  They start things off with SCIAC No. 1 on February 26-27 at Olivas Links Golf Club.
