No. 1 Bulldog Women's Golf Wins Bulldog Classic by 16 Strokes

The No. 1 University of Redlands women's golf team headed East for the Bulldog Classic on Saturday and Sunday at The S Club at Rancho Mirage. The Bulldogs landed atop the leaderboard with a 596 after 36 holes in a tournament that featured Chapman University, Cal Lutheran University, and UC Santa Cruz. The Maroon and Gray led all other schools with a minus-six on par fives, 107 pars, and 21 birdies.

Sophomore Hannah Jugar (Chula Vista, CA) posted the best opening round of the tournament by signing her scorecard with a 70 before tackling Sunday's 18 holes with great stealth for a 73. Her two-day total of 143 sent her home with medalist honors by one stroke. Jugar shot a minus-two on par twos and minus-four on par fives to lead the competition.

Senior Annie Hay (University Place, WA) and first-year Iris Liu (Diamond Bar, CA), who was playing as an individual, entered the clubhouse in tied-for-third place with a 150. Hay shot a 76-74 and led all competitors with 28 pars while Liu stayed consistent in her college debut with a pair of 75s and one-under on par-five holes.

Junior Kendall Nicholson (Bellevue, WA) followed by just three strokes for a 153 and tied for fifth place. She shot a 79 on day one and regrouped to trim five strokes for a 74 on day two.

Four more golfers followed, all placing in the top-15. First-year Andrea York (Oakdale, CA) shot a 156 while first-year Gabrielle Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) landed one stroke behind at 157. Junior Malia Kiger (Hermosa Beach, CA) and senior Mackenzie Kelly (Eastvale, CA) entered the clubhouse with a 159 and 161, respectively. M. Kiger and Kelly dazzled on the seventh hole when they each registered an eagle. York and Kelly were also competing as individuals.

Redlands looks forward to hosting the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 Tournament at the Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet Canyon on Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11, at 8 a.m.
