No. 7 Redlands Women’s Golf Solidifies First-Place Spot with Excellent Opening Day at SCIAC Championships

The No. 7 University of Redlands women's golf team embarked upon the 2016 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Sunday at the Oak Valley Golf Course in Beaumont.  Looking to defend their first-ever conference title, the Bulldogs got off to a solid start with a field-best round of 309 (+21), with senior Amberlynn Dorsey (Highland, CA) leading the charge with an opening score of 73 (+1).

In the tournament team standings, Redlands holds a four-stroke lead over second-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, which totaled 313 on the first day.  Cal Lutheran University completes the top three with a score of 320.

On Sunday, junior Raquel Gordon (Culver City, CA) and sophomore Caroline Ordian (Palm Desert, CA) each entered the club house with a score of 77 to land in a tie for fourth place after 18 holes. 

Junior Kari Gordon (Culver City, CA) served as the fourth Bulldog scorer with a tied-for-19th-place showing of 82, while junior Jenna Durette (Oceanside, CA) put together a round of 83 to tie for 23rd overall.

Prior to the first day of the SCIAC Championships, Redlands sat in first place with an aggregate total of 1,306 after four rounds of competition.  With Sunday's results, the Bulldogs solidify their position at the top of the standings, now with a total of 1,615 for a 23-stroke lead over second-place Whittier College (1,638).  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps lands third at 1,641 and Pomona-Pitzer ranks fourth at 1,642.

The Bulldogs continue SCIAC Championships action on Monday and Tuesday.  Due to technological difficulties, live scoring will not be available.
