Junior Staci Walsh (Shoreline, WA) tied for first place, but the
Athenas’ depth trumped the University of Redlands’ in a
363-342 loss to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Monday in Rancho
Cucamonga.
Walsh shot seven over par and tied with
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps’ Lauren Buchanan for the match low
with a 79, marking her second-ever victory as a Bulldog.
Also fortifying Redlands’ strong showing, freshman Tracy
Saracino (Englewood, CO) shot an 83 and finished up in fourth. She
stood four strokes behind the winning score.
Finally, sophomore Janae Alvarez (Thermal, CA), sophomore Karly
George (Mission Viejo, CA) and sophomore Kim Masunaga (Cupertino,
CA) rounded out the golfers donning the Maroon and Gray, filling
out eighth through 10th place. Alvarez posted a 100-stroke total
while George and Masunaga turned in scores of 101 and 109,
respectively.
The Bulldogs finished their third season as a varsity program and
continued to elevate its status with strong performances against
competitive regional opponents.
