SCIAC Tournament Preview: No. 2 Redlands vs. No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

SCIAC Tournament Preview: No. 2 Redlands vs. No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball (17-7, 12-4) team moves from the regular season to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Tournament Semifinal against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS | 16-7, 12-4), tonight, Thursday, February 23 with tipoff inside Currier Gym at 7:00 p.m.

The Bulldogs enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed followed by the Athenas at No. 3. The SCIAC regular season champions are the top-seeded Leopards of the University of La Verne and the final seed is No. 4 California Lutheran University.

Head Coach Rich Murphy continues to write history as the only coach within the SCIAC to have appeared in all 15 SCIAC Tournaments.  Across the previous fourteen appearances he has combined for three regular season conference championships and two SCIAC Tournament titles.  He has also been selected as the SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year three times.

If the Bulldogs win tonight and advance, they will move to the finals where they will play the winner between La Verne and Cal Lutheran.  This next game is scheduled to be played this Saturday, February 25 at the highest remaining seed.

Previous Meetings

The Bulldogs and Athenas have met twice this season with the Maroon and Grey winning both matchups with final scores of 67-61 (Box Score | Recap) and 58-54 (Box Score | Recap). This next meeting will be the second time in three games the Bulldogs and Athenas have matched-up.  CMS ended their regular season against Redlands this past week so the Athenas will now face UR for the second straight game.

In the first game on the road the Bulldogs never trailed but in game two last week, Redlands came back from an eight-point fourth quarter deficit before taking the lead right back with 2:43 remaining.

Going back to last season, the Bulldogs have won three of the last four, with that lone loss coming January 22, 2022 | 74-70. That loss was UR's first since the 2018-19 season.
