CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team won their second game in a row Saturday afternoon coming on the road in a 79-65 win over Pomona-Pitzer.

The Bulldogs improve to 9-4, 4-1 SCIAC and were led Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA) who posted yet another double double this time with 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting along with 16 boards.  She also added two assists, a steal and a block.  The Maroon and Grey also saw Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Valencia, CA) nearly pull off a triple double as she came away with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting, seven rebounds (tied a career high) and a career high nine assists.

Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) also finished in double figures totaling 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting, with nine points coming from behind the arc.  She also had six boards, three assists and a steal.

Redlands got off to a quick start outscoring the Sagehens 28-20 in the opening quarter before taking a 47-32 lead into intermission.  UR outscored PP by two in the third to stretch their lead and despite giving up 16 points across the final ten minutes the deficit was too big for Pomona-Pitzer to mount a comeback.  The Bulldogs scored the first 13 points of the game and held the Sagehens scoreless across the first three minutes. At the start of the game UR saw Colbi Zorich (Kenmore, WA) post four points and Downs, Jerrier, Pagkalinawan, and Aliyah Anderson (Oceanside, CA) added finishes as well to set the tone early.

This lead grew to 16 (18-2), with 5:18 left in the quarter. That would be the largest advantage of the period as the Sagehens would go on an 18-7 run cutting the deficit to five, 25-20. Downs, though, would respond with minute left hitting a three off an Anderson assist giving Redlands an eight-point lead after one.

Julia Balestreri (Pleasanton, CA) got the scoring started in the second quarter with her first points of the game and Jerrier converted on a pair of baskets as UR reclaimed the double-digit lead, 34-20. Redlands stayed in front the rest of the stanza taking a 15-point advantage into the break following another late make by Downs.

After an early back-and-forth to start the third, the Sagehens would put together a run to get back within single-digits, 55-46, for the first time since the first quarter.  They got as close as eight, but Downs again came up clutch, making a three-pointer off another Pagkalinawan assist to put the Bulldogs up by 11, 60-49. Downs' three sparked a 9-0 surge through the end of the third as they took control of the game and led by 17, 66-49.

In the final ten minutes the Bulldogs put the game away by extending their 9-0 run from the third quarter to seventeen straight. The Sagehens did not score their first points of the fourth until there was only 4:40 left in the game as the Bulldogs' defensive unit held tough for exactly ten minutes dating back to late in the third.

The Bulldogs dominated the glass with a plus 34 mark (59-25) and with it were a combined plus 13 on points in the paint and second chance points. The Bulldogs never trailed, while shooting 47.7% from the field, 42.9% from deep and 78.6% from the charity stripe.

Redlands returns home for the first time in three weeks this Wednesday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. inside Currier Gym when they host Chapman University.
