University of Redlands Bulldogs

The Bulldogs finished the regular season 18-4, 14-2 SCIAC.  They come into Tuesday riding a five-game winning streak dating back to February 5 and have won seven of their last eight.  In the month of January they faced adversity having to navigate eight games when the program was missing multiple starters due to COVID-19 protocols. But because of their depth and lack of reliance on one or two players to carry the team, they were able to post a 7-1 record.  Redlands has earned a spot in the SCIAC Tournament for a SCIAC record 14th straight year posting a 5-11 record with two titles and a runner-up finish.  In 2020, the Bulldogs found success as the top-seed and claimed the SCIAC Tournament Title before going into the NCAA Championships upsetting the No. 8 seed Wisconsin-Whitewater (70-62).  The previous title before that was in 2010 when the Bulldogs, as the No. 2 seed beat No. 3 Cal Lutheran (63-61) before taking out No. 1 Occidental College (55-54 OT).

Recently the Maroon and Grey have relied on junior Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) who has been the most consistent scorer down the stretch, averaging 18.0 PPG over the final five games. Overall Roque leads the team in scoring at 15.7 PPG and has utilized her speed and quickness to get to the rim and the free-throw line as she only attempts 1.3 triples per game, while going to the charity stripe 5.5 times per game (T-4th most in SCIAC).  Joining Roque in double figures this season is Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA), Hannah Jerrier (Sr. - Canton, MA), and Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Sr. - Valencia, CA).

Jerrier leads the defensive unit being named the SCIAC Athlete of the Week five times, four of them coming on the defensive end.  This season she averaged 10.3 rebounds (7.6 defensive boards) per game against conference foes, and also blocked 1.6 shots per game. In addition to her defensive prowess, the Canton, Mass. native averaged 12.7 points per outing against league competition, shooting 53.6% from the field, and 64.4% from the free-throw line. Jerrier notched seven double-doubles in 15 SCIAC games played this season, highlighted by a 17-rebound effort in a win over La Verne, and reached double figures on the glass in nine conference contests.

California Lutheran University Regals

The Regals find themselves as the No. 8 seed due to a coin flip they lost to the University of La Verne (No. 7).  Cal Lutheran finished the regular season 7-15, 5-11 SCIAC.  They are making their 10thoverall appearance to the SCIAC Tournament, and their first since 2018.  They have won a pair of tournament titles (2012 and 2013), and have finished as the runner-ups twice (2015 and 2016).

Coming into tonight the Regals have lost three of their last four with their last win coming against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (76-65) on February 16.  This past Saturday they fell 56-51 to Chapman University.
