CLAREMONT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team saw their six-game winning streak end Saturday night on the road 74-70 to Claremont-M-S.

The Maroon and Grey suffer their first loss since December 16, 2021 as they drop to 11-3, 7-1 SCIAC.  They still sit in first place though within the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings.

It was a strong offensive performance from the Bulldogs who held the advantage in every category.  They shot 50% from the field, 50% from three-point territory and 69.2% from the free-throw line.  They also had four players in double figures, held the edge on rebounding 34-28, added 10 points off turnovers, and put up 34 points in the paint.

Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting.  She also added three assists and two boards.  Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) provided another 13 points with six rebounds, and three assists.  Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA) was one assist shy of a triple double with 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, 11 rebounds, nine assists, a steal, and four blocks.  Then Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Valencia, CA) chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while knocking down a pair of triples.

It was a tight 1st Quarter with UR holding the 19-18 edge.  Jerrier provided the spark with six points, six rebounds, and three assists.  A pair of runs by UR helped set the stage for the period as they started the game off with six of the first eight points before going on a 7-2 run minutes later that moved the score to 15-6.  This advantage though would be wiped away as CMS would close out the frame on their own 12-4 run that pulled them within one.

In the 2nd Quarter it was all Bulldogs outscoring the Athenas 18-13 behind a 46.7% mark from the field and a hot 66.7% clip from deep.  Leah Tan (Alhambra, CA) provided the momentum for UR off the bench coming in and knocking down two triples that helped the Maroon and Grey grow their lead to 13 with 4:56 to play.  But again the Athenas would battle back closing out the half with an 11-4 run that got them within single digits at 37-31.

The lead swung to CMS to start the 3rd Quarter as they led 46-44, but UR wouldn't back down as they would rattle off the next nine points behind a triple and jumper from Downs and a pair of layups from Roque and Pagkalinawan.  This gave the Maroon and Grey a 53-46 lead and they would carry this momentum into leading after three quarters at 57-52.

The game came down to the final 10:00 minutes and CMS didn't back down putting up 22 points.  They started the period off on a 7-1 run, which put them on top 59-58.  They extended that advantage to 67-62 soon after, but a pair of layups from Pagkalinawan and Downs, coupled with two free throws from Roque would make it a one-point game at 69-68 at the 1:23 mark.  Austyn Masuno then came up big with an and one that put the Athenas back up by three with under a minute to play and despite Downs knocking down a jumper to cut it to two, it wouldn't be enough as a missed shot by CMS followed by an offensive rebound and put back would give Claremont-M-S the home victory.

Redlands returns to the court this Wednesday, January 26 at 7:00pm when they travel to Occidental College.
