REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team opens Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play Wednesday night inside Currier Gym as they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning at 8:00pm.

Redlands Coming into the Game

The University of Redlands is coming into this season as the reigning 2019-20 SCIAC Champions.  They currently hold a 3-1 record and sit in a tie for 1st in the SCIAC Standings.  They own victories against Linfield (75-61), Willamette (65-50), and most recently Pacific (OR) (91-78).  The one loss coming to No. 11 Wheaton College during the Bulldog-Panther Classic 69-57.  Foru of the five starters are averaging double figures led two-time SCIAC Athlete of the Week Hannah Jerrier.        

Claremont-M-S Coming into the Game

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, under second year Head Coach Chanel Murchison enter SCIAC play after finishing 2nd in the SCIAC Standings in 2019-20, falling to the Bulldogs in the SCIAC Tournament finale.  This year the Athenas have a 2-4 record with a pair of wins coming against SAGU American Indian College (95-38) and Bridgewater State (52-46).  They enter Wednesday losing three straight (New York University – 68-54 | Willamette – 54-51 | Whitworth – 58-53) and four of their last five.     

Head-to-Head (Past Five Years)

Over the past five years the Bulldogs have owned the head-to-head against the Poets 8-2.  The last meetings between these two programs came during the 2019-20 season with the U of R winning both games 64-50 & 54-51.

By the Numbers

Redlands – The Bulldogs boast the top offense in the conference averaging 72 PPG, while shooting 42.1% from the field, 28.4% from three-point territory, and 66.3% from the free-throw line.  Their height is a concern for opposing teams as UR hauls in 35.8 RPG, with 27.5 of them coming on the defensive glass.  They rarely turn the ball over and use their stingy defense to pick up 7.8 Steals and 2.5 Blocks.  They are holding opponents to just 64.5 PPG, 38.4% Shooting, including a 31.9% clip from behind the arc.        

Claremont-M-S – The Athenas are off to a slow start this season, averaging just 59.3 PPG, while shooting 36% from the field, 29.4% from three-point territory, and 63.2% from the free-throw line.  They too have height inside as they bring in 40 RPG, which includes a 2.2 rebounding margin.  They turn the ball over almost 20 times a game but cause havoc with their press averaging 9.5 Steals and 2.5 Blocks.  They are holding their opponents to 55.7 PPG, 37.8% shooting from the field and 26.9% from three-point territory.
