Bulldog Women’s Basketball makes quick work of Bearcats 65-50

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Basketball team opened up the Bulldog-Panther Classic Friday evening with a solid 65-50 victory over Willamette University.

The Maroon and Grey improve to 2-0 and have now beaten a pair of Northwest Conference opponents.  For the second straight game four of five starters recorded double digit scoring efforts led by Hannah Jerrier (Canton, MA) who poured in her first double double of the season with 19 points and 18 boards.  She was joined by Alyssa Downs (South San Francisco, CA) who added a 14-point, six rebound, six assist effort.  The other two Bulldogs who recorded double digits included Angelina Roque (San Diego, CA) with 11 points and Chyanne Pagkalinawan (Valencia, CA) with 10 points.

For the game UR finished shooting 43% from the field, 8% from three-point territory, and 71% from the free-throw line.  Each team hauled in 34 rebounds, but the difference came in the paint where the Bulldogs outscored the Bearcats 30-18.

It was a hot start for Redlands in the 1st Quarter outscoring Willamette 20-10 behind a 6-for-15 effort that saw Downs put up six points.  A 15-3 run set the stage for UR sparked by back-to-back and ones by Roque and Pagkalinawan.  After that the Bulldogs didn't look back putting up another 15 in the 2nd Quarter thanks to an eight-point effort by Jerrier inside moving the score to 35-23 at the break.

Willamette came out strong in the 3rd Quarter picking up the tempo as they would go on to outscore UR 15-10 as they would get within single digits on a few occasions.  But the offense of the Maroon and Grey was too much for the Bearcats, especially inside as they would run away with the contest finishing the game off on a 20-12 run in the 4th Quarter, while shooting 60% from the field.

Redlands returns to the court tomorrow, Saturday, November 20 when they take on Wheaton College (Ill.) beginning at 5:00pm.
