Senior Forward Reyna Ta'amu Tabbed First-Team All-SCIAC Honoree for Second Time

Reyna Ta'amu earned a spot on the All-SCIAC First Team.

It was announced early Thursday that senior forward Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) of the University of Redlands was selected to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team, as voted upon by the nine head coaches of the member schools.  She becomes a three-time All-Conference honoree with back-to-back First-Team awards.

Among the conference players, Ta'amu ranks third in scoring with 15.4 points per game while executing the second-best shooting percentage at 54.7%.   In 15 conference games, she earned a 16.2 scoring average at a 50.9% clip and a rebounding average of 7.9, which included 4.1 offensive boards per contest.

Earlier this season, she became the ninth Bulldog women's basketball player to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.  She has registered 1,067 points with at least one more game to play.

Ta'amu consistently made her presence known in the paint as an offensive and defensive threat for Redlands.  Against Occidental College, she recorded a double-double in the conference opener with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  She went on to earn three more double-doubles against SCIAC foes, with an impressive effort that included 27 points and 16 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 89-63 victory over the University of La Verne on February 7.

Overall, Ta'amu played a critical role in the Maroon and Gray's 11th-consecutive trip to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.  She and the Bulldogs look forward to taking on top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in Thursday's semifinal on the road at 7 p.m.
