Redlands’ Reyna Ta’amu and Jade Cheldelin Land on All-SCIAC Women’s Basketball Second Team

It was announced earlier today that junior guard Jade Cheldelin (Portland, OR) and sophomore forward Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) represented the University of Redlands women's basketball program on the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Second Team, as voted upon by the head coaches at their end-of-season meeting.

This marks the inaugural All-Conference award for each recipient.  Overall, the duo played an integral role in the Bulldogs' fourth-place finish in the regular-season standings, which advanced the squad to the SCIAC Postseason Tournament for the ninth-consecutive time.

While starting every SCIAC contest and averaging 29.1 minutes, Cheldelin led the Maroon and Gray in scoring with 10.3 points per game by shooting 37.6% from the floor.  She scored 10 or more points in 10 conference games, as highlighted by back-to-back 17-point performances in late January.  Overall, she pulled in a total of 43 rebounds, dished out 17 assists, and nabbed 19 steals against conference opponents.

In 13 games played, Ta'amu provided 8.3 points and 6.5 rebounds while averaging 21.9 minutes.  She put together a shooting percentage of 42.7, to go along with a 76.1 effort from the charity stripe.  She opened the conference season with a 20-point effort in the team's 59-43 win over Occidental College.  In the Bulldogs' 62-51 win over Whittier, Ta'amu knocked down 16 points, which came off of a 77.8% shooting display.  Of her 85 rebounds in SCIAC action, 50 of them were on the offensive end.
