Bulldog Women's Basketball Outdone by Baruch College in Marymount Tournament

The University of Redlands women's basketball team took to the road for the first of two back-to-back tournaments by facing Baruch College (NY) in the Marymount-Marine Corps Tip-Off Tournament in Virginia earlier today. The Bulldogs battled well against their fellow NCAA tournament participants through the first half but struggled to shut down the Bearcat offense, which shot lights-out in the second stanza, including a 71.4% display from beyond the arc.

Redlands faced a 15-point deficit just past the halfway point of the opening period before a 15-4 run allowed the Bulldogs to close the gap to four at the break.

Less than four minutes into the second half, Redlands nabbed its only lead of the game when sophomore guard Allison Wong (Redding, CA) knocked down one of her three baskets from long range, making it a 47-45 ball game.

However, Baruch erupted for four of its eight three-pointers to run away with an 85-66 decision.

Junior forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) rallied for a 17-point, seven-rebound effort to lead the Bulldogs. Senior forward Allison Clark (Altadena, CA) posted 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting, while junior guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) supplied 11 points as the only other double-digit scorer.

As a team, Redlands shot 43.1% from the field but struggled from long range, hitting just six of 20 attempts.

Baruch gained eight or more points from each of its starting five, including a team-high 17 points from Monique Salmon. The Bearcats converted 48.5% of their shots while going nearly 50% from three-point land.

Baruch won the rebounding battle, earning 40 total boards to the Bulldogs' 31.

Redlands (1-1) strives to rebound when it faces the loser of tonight's Marymount-Neumann showdown during tomorrow's consolation game at 1:30 p.m. EST.
