Redlands Women's Basketball Holds on for 68-62 Victory over Whitworth

After leading the entire first half, the Bulldogs held on in the final minutes to nab a 68-62 victory over the visiting Pirates of Whitworth University (WA). Redlands dominated the first half until the Pirates rallied to pull within two points at the break. The second period saw a back-and-forth battle with the Bulldogs leading by 10 with less than two minutes to play. Whitworth mounted another comeback effort but came up short in the waning seconds of the game.

Junior forward Meghan Yetman (Danville, CA) and sophomore forward Mackenzie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) both posted double-doubles for Redlands. Yetman added 12 points and 10 boards while Smith contributed 10 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA) paced the Bulldogs with 20 points while junior guard Ali Bueno (San Jose, CA) chipped in 14 points off of 4-for-5 shooting from long range.

Whitworth looked to Leah Pomante to lead the team with 23 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the charity stripe. Cassie Pilkinton added 13 points while Alida Bower contributed 10 for the Pirates

The Bulldogs (3-1) travel to Chapman University on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game against the Panthers.
