Bulldog Women's Basketball Suffers Role Reversal at Oxy

The University of Redlands women's basketball team traveled to Occidental College on Saturday night for an important match-up against the Tigers.  After defeating Occidental by 27 points in the conference opener on January 8, the Bulldogs hoped to earn similar results in their second meeting.  However, once again, the parity of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) was revealed as Occidental handed a tough 50-66 loss to Redlands.

By the six-minute mark of the first half, the Tigers held a 19-point lead, but the Bulldogs fought back to pull within four at the break.  On Redlands' opening opportunity of the second half, sophomore guard Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura, CA) scored two of her team-leading 19 points to move the Bulldogs within two.

With less than six minutes to play, Redlands fell behind by 16 points as it struggled with turnovers and a low shooting percentage of 39.0.

Freshman forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho Palos Verde, CA) chipped in 15 points to go along with nine rebounds and three assists.

The Bulldogs (13-6, 5-3 SCIAC) head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Thursday night for a 7:30 p.m. game with the Athenas.
