The University of Redlands women's basketball team returned to
action tonight and rallied back from a seven-point deficit in the
first half to defeat the Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz, 72-61.
Although the Banana Slugs went on a 9-0 run midway through the
first period, the Bulldogs fought back to tie the game at the break
at 30 each. Early in the second half, Redlands pulled ahead and
never relinquished the lead, earning the solid non-conference
victory.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman forward Courtney Carroll (Rancho
Palos Verdes, CA) and junior forward Meghan Yetman (Danville, CA),
who scored 19 points each. Sophomore Mariah Barbetti-Cort (Ventura,
CA) tossed in 18 points to go along with her amazing 20
rebounds, which included eight on the offensive end.
Santa Cruz gained 20 points from Kayleigh Calandri, while Danielle
Mofsowitz added 11.
