A native of nearby Riverside and former student-athlete, Nathan Meier is a true "Bulldog for Life," and he brings an impressive commitment to the Bulldogs' success.

A familiar face to the Bulldogs, he has enjoyed various stints as an assistant coach with the Redlands cross country and track & field teams.  During his time coaching the Bulldogs, he helped recruit the class that would go on to win the 2021 Men’s and Women’s SCIAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, including the men’s pole vault champion.  He also helped to coach multiple athletes to the school’s top-10 list, including the men’s and women’s second-fastest 3,000m steeplechase, while also contributing to Tucker Cargile's All-American journey.  As a member of the 2018 cross country coaching staff, Meier also saw three individuals qualify for the National Championships.

Prior to his return, Meier served as an assistant cross country and track & field coach at the University of Nebraska (August 2019-July 2021), where he helped recruit one of the best classes on the men’s and women’s side in recent history, including Dais Malebana, who had run 4:02.03 for the full mile and placed 10th at the 2019 NJCAA D1 Cross Country Championships.  He also coached five All-Americans, two Big 10 individual champions, multiple All-Conference performers, two school record-holders, numerous top-10 performers in school history, and three cross country national qualifiers.  During his two years at Nebraska, student-athletes rewrote the school’s top-10 list as almost 20 of them found their way into the record books.  George Kusche set the school record in the mile with his time of 3:57.74 and the 3,000m with a 7:50.93.  Kusche was also a 3x Division I Indoor Track and Field All-American as well as a 2x individual Cross Country National Championship qualifier and was the 2020 Big 10 Cross Country Champion.  Then at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, he coached two athletes to All-American status: Dais Malebana (1500m) and Judi Jones (3,000m steeplechase).

In addition, Meier gained coaching experience at Martin Luther King High School in Riverside. While there, Meier ran with the student-athletes to ensure their safety and to evaluate their running form. He also oversaw various aspects of the program, such as managing team workouts and taking on various race-day duties.

Meier also graduated from Redlands with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 2016. As an undergraduate, he earned the Presidential Scholarship and Achievement Award and competed for the Redlands cross country and track & field teams each of his four years as a Bulldog.  Highlighting his career, Meier landed on the 2016 US Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Track & Field West Region Team for the 3,000-meter Steeplechase. At the time of his graduation, Meier ranked seventh all-time at the University of Redlands in this event.

Meier has twice received his team’s Most Improved Award, beginning in high school in 2010 and then again in college in 2014.

In addition to coaching, Meier strives to work with athletes as a certified mental performance consultant or sports psychologist and currently holds his USTFCCCA Track & Field Technical Certification.

In his spare time, Meier enjoys running, sports in general, and watching Netflix.
