Tucker Cargile breaks NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship Mile Record | Named All-American

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – History was made over the weekend as graduate student Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) became an All-American for the fourth time in his career, the first though being in the Mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Cargile qualified in the Mile and came into the Championships with the second-fastest time in Division III.  He created fireworks for those in attendance as he made it through prelims before threatening the top miler in NCAA Division III history (Aidan Ryan – Williams College).  Cargile was able to hold on for a second-place finish with a time of 4:07.02, which was a Championship Record, edging Christopher Collett (Wartburg – 4:07.06), Ryan Harvey (Loras – 4:07.24), Ezra Ruggles (SUNY Geneseo – 4:07.26), and Matthew Kleiman (Johns Hopkins – 4:07.84).

Cargile competed in the NCAA Div. III Indoor Track and Field Championships back in 2020, when he became an All-American in the 800m, and also in 2019 in the Mile.  He also earned the All-America distinction in cross country (2019) and outdoor track & field (2021).

Senior Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) was also a competitor at the Indoor Championships taking part in the 400m, entering the meet with the sixth-fastest time in Division III.  But she was unable to get out of prelims finishing 11th with a 57.90.
