Bulldog Track & Field Wins Eight Events | Goes 5-1 at SCIAC No. 1

LA VERNE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Track & Field teams opened up their Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schedule Saturday at SCIAC No. 1 hosted by Chapman University but held at the University of La Verne.

The men competed against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the University of La Verne, and Whittier College, while the women took on Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, and the University La Verne.

A combined eight victories occurred for the Maroon and Grey on the day.  The women swept the competition beating Chapman (116-42), Claremont-M-S (82-76), and La Verne (130-22), while the men took out La Verne (112-42) and Whittier (95-61), only falling in a tight match-up with Claremont-M-S (115-47).

Women

The highlights on the women's side included the 4 x 400 Relay Team of Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, CA), Chloe Bullock (Hood River, OR), Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA), and Andrea Lyon (Danville, CA) winning the event with a time of 4:06.49.  Lyon ran the anchor leg and was forced to come from behind to edge out Claremont-M-S (4:07.21).

The other relay, the 4 x 100 squad of Courtney O'Neal (Las Vegas, NV), Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA), Sydney Harness (Henderson, NV), and Lyon took home top marks with a time of 48.27.    

In the steeplechase, her staple event Isabella Glenn (Seattle, WA) ran the 4th fastest time in Redlands history, going 11:16.53, which placed her 2nd overall.  Then in the hammer, senior Leslie Sernaque Falcon (Concord, CA) took home top marks with a PR with a 38.91m.

Other notable performances included Ciara Aw (Seattle, WA) and Maigan Adams (Los Angeles, CA) going 1-2 in the Long Jump with marks of 5.15m and 5.04m, respectively.  Adams (10.38m), Christen Wiley (South San Francisco, CA) (10.20m), and Aw (9.72m) went 1-2-3 in the Triple Jump.  Timony Sherry (Shoreline, WA) and Grace Beaty (Upland, CA) added points in the Shot Put finishing 3-4 with throws of 10.40m and 8.52m, respectively.

Savannah Engler (Petaluma, CA) finished just outside the Top 3 in the Pole Vault getting to a height of 2.90m (4th).  Noelle Chavez (Yucaipa, CA) had a big throw in the Discus winning the event with a 38.75m mark.  She then followed that up with a 4th place finish in the Javelin (25.88m).  In the sprints, Albrecht took part in the 400m finishing 5th with a time of 1:03.57, Ackerman finished 2nd in the 100m (12.76), edged by tenths of a second to Whittier's Jasmyn Crawford (12.43).  O'Neal also took part in the same event and finished 5th with a 13.14. 

Bullock returned in the 800m picking up points for the Bulldogs finishing 3rd with a 2:25.36, while Cece Matteson (Seattle, WA) joined her in 6th with a 2:29.40.  Ackerman and Harness went 3-4 in the 200m with times of 26.57 and 26.98, both being edged by the Whittier duo of Crawford and Mackenzie Reed.  In the hurdles, Bachmeier put together a nice showing finishing 2nd in both the 400m (1:09.88) and 110m (16.59) Hurdles.  Alexis Wallace (Orangevale, CA) then rounded out the day competing in the 5000m taking 4th (18:54.00).                           

Men

The big mention on the men's side was Riley Lathrop (Honolulu, HI) in the 1500m where he posted a 3:58.20, putting him fourth overall.  With this mark he now moves to No. 9 All-Time in the Redlands record books.

Jacob Huset (Tacoma, WA) started the day off for the Bulldogs winning the Long Jump with a 6.70m mark.  He also took 3rd, tying with Owen Schmitz (Fremont, CA) in the High Jump with a mark of 1.85m.  Schmitz who finished 4th in the Long Jump with a mark of 6.14m returned in the Triple Jump anchoring a trio of Bulldogs to take home top marks with a 13.23m.  He was followed by Allyn Asberry-Blanco (Orange County, NY) (3rd – 12.04m) and Cameron LaRiccia (San Diego, CA) (4th – 11.94m).

Tyler Davies (Lake Forest, CA) finished just outside the Top 3 in the Shot Put posting a 13.63m throw.  He also took 5th in the Discus (34.62m).

In the sprints, Jamir Jones (Fairfield, CA) ran to a 2nd place finish in the 400m (50.55).  Cristian Megas (Palmdale, CA) and Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA) went 3-4 in the 100m with times of 11.19 and 11.28, respectively.  Megas also competed in the 200m taking 3rd with a time of 22.73. 

Then in the 4 x 400 Relay, the team of Jones, Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO), Aidan Strealy (Lake Oswego, OR), and Markelle Raymond-Hill would go 3rd with a 3:30.68.  Gael Orozco (Claremont, CA) and Asberry-Blanco went 2nd (1:04.00) – 3rd (1:06.19) in the 400m Hurdles and then followed that going 4th (17.38) and 5th (17.41) in the 110m Hurdles.          

Tucker Cargile and Andrea Lyon now prep for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships set to take place next weekend, March 11-12 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  The distance runners will also be competing at the Oxy Distance Carnival on March 12 (Occidental College).
