Bulldogs Honored with SCIAC Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Newcomer, and Coaching Staff of the Year

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced the 2021 award recipients for Outdoor Track & Field on Thursday, with the University of Redlands hauling in three individual honors for women as well as the coaching staff of the year for men and women.

Sophomore Alexandra Ackerman (Lake Elsinore, CA) was tabbed the 2021 SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year for her stellar performances in the sprints.  Individually, she won the 100m Dash in 12.32 and crossed the finish line first in the 200m with a time of 25.46.  In addition, she contributed to the gold-medal results of both Bulldog quartets, aiding the 4x100m Relay's winning time of 47.63 and the 4x400m Relay's first-place standard of 4:08.65.

Senior Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) earned the 2021 SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year Award with a pair of wins and a second-place result during the SCIAC Championships.  She landed atop the podium in the Long Jump with a mark of 17' 10 ¼" and took first in the Triple Jump with a leap of 37' 4 ½".  Finally, she added a silver-medal distance of 104'5" in the Javelin Throw.

First-year Ella Bachmeier (Rancho Capistrano, CA) became the 2021 SCIAC Newcomer of the Year after winning the 100 Hurdles with a time of 15.51.  In addition, she ran on the winning 4x400m Relay (4:08.65) and placed third in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 1:10.55.

Head Coach Mike Schmidt and assistant coaches Dominic Lopez, Andrew Clarey, and Dave Parsons received the honor of Coaching Staff of the Year for men's and women's track & field.  They guided the Bulldog women to the program's first conference title since 2011, as they tallied 116.5 points against Cal Lutheran University, Chapman University, and the University of La Verne.  On the men's side, Schmidt and his staff helped Redlands edge out the competition by one point, earning 80 points for the title.  This is the men's first championship since going back-to-back in 2011 and 2012.

Furthermore, the SCIAC officially honored the All-Conference recipients, which include the winning student-athlete in each event only due to the pandemic-limited season.
