Graduate Student Katie Gonzalez and Junior Desiree Cadena Sweep SCIAC Track and Field Weekly Awards

The University of Redlands outdoor track & field team shined last weekend and snagged a pair of Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) weekly awards. Junior Desiree Cadena (San Jose, CA) was named the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week, while graduate student Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) earned the conference's field Athlete of the Week award. 

At the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet in Claremont on Saturday, Cadena turned in the top Redlands' finish of the day as she clocked in at 5:23.46 in the Mile for a second-place finish. This marked her first time competing in the mile in her career.

In the Discus, Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) registered her longest throw on her first attempt with a 120' 3" distance to finish in sixth. Gonzalez closed out the day with a 143' 2" heave on her third chance to take third overall in the Hammer Throw. She finished first amongst Division III competition in both events.

Redlands heads back to Flagstaff, Arizona for the second time this season for the NAU Tune-Up on Friday, February 21, at 3 p.m.
