The University of Redlands track & field teams concluded day two of the 2019 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Sunday in Claremont. Amidst multiple podium finishes and career-best performances, the women climbed up a spot in the team standings to secure a second-place showing with 147 points, while the men protected their spot in third place with 114 points. Between the two teams, the Bulldogs earned 16 All-Conference performances on Sunday, with the women garnering nine and the men earning seven.

The women began the day with sophomore Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR), first-year Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA), junior Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA), and first-year Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA) claiming the 4x100 Relay title with a time of 47.23, which was nearly a second faster than CMS in second place.

In a duplication of last season, junior Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) and Kimble went one-two for All-SCIAC performances in the 100 Hurdles. Fields successfully defended her title by firing off a career-best time of 14.10, as Kimble quickly followed in 14.27. In addition, senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) posted a seventh-place time of 15.29. Fields repeated the winning effort in the 400 Hurdles by uncorking a conference-record time of 61.05 to remain the title-holder and co-lead the nation.

In the 200 Meters, Kimble kept it going with a second-place performance in an All-SCIAC time of 25.15. Joining her in the final, Bangou added a fourth-place finish off a time of 25.46.

Kimble, Bangou, and O'Neal collected key points in the 100 Meters, with Kimble highlighting the trio by taking third in 12.37.

In the 800 Meters, sophomore Desiree Cadena (San Jose, CA) clocked a career-best time of 2:16.86 to claim All-SCIAC honors in third place.

In the final event on the track for the women, Albrecht, Kimble, Fields, and senior Kara Romani (Sacramento, CA) ran their fastest 4x400 Relay time of the season in 4:02.27 to net fifth-place points in the team scoring for Redlands.

Graduate student Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) successfully defended her title in the Shot Put by uncorking a heave of 48' 0" on her second attempt of the day. In sixth place, sophomore Caeli Havel (Pahrump, NV) dominated her previous-best mark by over two feet with a 35' 6 3/4" on her final attempt.

The Bulldogs saw sophomore Brenna Dolen (Redlands, CA) and Kimble register quality marks for fifth and seventh place, respectively, in the Triple Jump. In career-best fashion, Dolen leaped to a distance of 36' 9 ¾", while Kimble's best jump of the day measured 36' ¾".

Junior Katie Gonzalez (San Clarita, CA) led three Bulldogs in the final of the Discus Throw with a career-best distance of 129' 2" for an All-SCIAC performance in third place. Ta'amu was close behind at 127' 11" in fourth, while Havel finished sixth with a mark of 122' 1", both of which were career-bests.

The men's day began with momentum as well with senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA), and sophomores Cooper Malerstein (Huntington Beach, CA), MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO), and Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA) finishing in a season-best time of 41.45 to claim the 4x100 Relay championship.

Successfully defending both of his titles from last season, Bohlinger fired off a time of 10.62 in the 100 Meters and then stopped the clock in 21.38 in the 200 Meters. Murray finished the 100 Meters in seventh place with a time of 11.08 and took sixth in the 200 by going 22.07.

In a tight race, sophomore Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) produced a gold-medal finish in 1:51.60 for back-to-back SCIAC titles in this event. Nolan Ridgeway added a ninth-place time of 2:01.26.

First-year Dylan Fernholz-Hartman and sophomore Jason Waters (Troutdale, OR) each provided points in the 110 Hurdles by taking fourth and eighth, respectively. Fernholz-Hartman finished in 15.59 to match a career-best, as Waters stopped the clock in 15.97.

With solid representation in the 400 Hurdles, senior John Pease (Fallbrook, CA) paced three Bulldogs with his career-best time of 54.01 for second place and an All-Conference nod. Senior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) closely followed in fourth with a time of 55.12 and Fernholz-Hartman completed the race in 57.14 for eighth place.

The men continued to earn points in the throwing events with senior Matthew Hayashi's (Hacienda Heights, CA) All-SCIAC performance in the Discus Throw. Hayashi took down his previous career-best with a distance of 142' on his final attempt for third place. He earned another All-Conference result in the Shot Put with a heave of 48' 1 ¼".

In addition, sophomore MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO) posted a mark of 44' 2" to take fourth place in the Triple Jump.

Redlands continues its season at the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, May 11, at 10 a.m.
