The fourth-ranked University of Redlands men's and women's track & field teams continued to roll with each team defeating Chapman University, Occidental College, and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Dual No. 2, which was hosted by the University of La Verne. No team scores were available at the time of posting.
Amidst the many highlights, the Bulldogs registered 10 first-place finishes for the men and seven for the women. In addition, some of these marks also place them among the best in the country and in Redlands' all-time history.
Senior Luke Bohlinger (Mercer Island, WA) and junior Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA) combined talents for a 1-2 showing in the 100 Meters with respective times of 10.75 and 10.83. Bohlinger's time places him ninth in Division III. Champion also uncorked the second-fastest time in Bulldog history in the 200 Meters by unfurling a first-place time of 21.10 for a career-best.
Sophomore Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) ran the fastest time at the meet in the 800 Meters at 1:52.86, which also places him second in Division III this season. In addition, senior Nick Burchett (Gold River, CA) won the 400 Hurdles in 55.22 to rank 13th in the nation.
To complete the individual event-winners on the track, senior Joseph Esparza (Arcata, CA) uncorked a first-place time of 9:34.1.8 in the 3000 Steeplechase.
Finally, the 4x100 Relay of Bohlinger, Champion, sophomore Domanick Murray (Palm Springs, CA), and sophomore MJ Wheeler (St. Louis, MO) put together a winning effort by completing the race in 41.51.
In the field events, Wheeler registered a leap of 23' 1 ¾" in the Long Jump to not only prevail over the competition at the meet but to rank fifth in Division III.
Senior Matthew Hayashi (Hacienda Heights, CA) earned a career-best mark in the Shot Put with a first-place heave of 48' 6 ¾" before taking second in the Discus Throw with a toss of 131' 0". Teammate junior Alieu Corr (Banjul, Gambia) won the Discus with a remarkable distance of 139' 9". Finally, graduate student Nate Battisti (Seattle, WA) fired off a career-best mark of 170' 0" in the Javelin Throw to come home with the gold.
For the women, juniors Jessica Fields (Las Vegas, NV) and Chyenne Kimble (Big Bear Lake, CA) dominated their events with incredible results. First, Fields and Kimble ran to first- and second-place showings in the 100 Hurdles with respective times of 14.18 and 14.19 against a significant headwind. These marks now rank first and second in Division III as well. In addition, Kimble registered the winning 100 time of 12.21 for ninth in the nation and finished second in the 200 with the eighth-best time in Division III at 25.29. Fields uncorked the gold-medal time of 1:03.10 in the 400 Hurdles to land eighth in the nation. Finally, Kimble joined sophomore Hannah Albrecht (Cottage Grove, OR) and first-years Annick Bangou (Redlands, CA) and Courtney O'Neal (Atlanta, GA) on the winning 4x100 Relay that completed the lap in 47.67.
In addition, Albrecht produced the only sub-minute result in the 400 Meters, as she crossed the finish line in 59.18.
Graduate student Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) remains on top in the Shot Pot with her winning mark of 46' 10 ¼", while junior Katie Gonzalez (San Gabriel, CA) and sophomore Caeli Havel (Pahrump, NV) teamed up for a 1-2 showing in the Discus Throw with respective distances of 124' 2" and 121' 7".
Redlands looks forward to sending a few individuals to the Jim Click Multis Shootout in Tucson, AZ, on Thursday, April 4, and Friday, April 5.
