The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced today that the University of Redlands gained two regional award winners in sophomore Tucker Cargile (Denver, CO) and graduate student Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) for indoor track & field. Cargile was named the West Region's Men's Track Athlete of the Year, while Ta'amu earned the West Region's Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Cargile kicked off the indoor season by running the Mile in 4:22.33 in the altitude of Northern Arizona in mid-February. Just over a week later, he improved his time by nearly 10 seconds for a first-place mark of 4:13.48 at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier. He also snagged a first-place finish in the 800 Meters by stopping the clock in 1:53.79 at that meet. With his performance this season, he became Redlands' first-ever men's qualifier for indoor nationals.

Ta'amu set the tone early for her successful indoor season by recording a first-place mark of 50' 11" in the Shot Put on only her second throw at the Mountain T Invitational on February 1. She enters her first trip to the indoor national championships as the top qualifier while also ranking seventh all-time in NCAA Division III history.

Cargile and Ta'amu are set to begin competition on Friday, March 8, at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Boston, Massachusetts.
