Senior Reyna Ta'amu and Sophomore Maliq Champion Sweep SCIAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week for the Bulldogs

The University of Redlands track & field teams were well represented among the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Athletes of the Week for March 12-18, as senior thrower Reyna Ta'amu (Lakewood, CA) earned the honor for the women and sophomore Maliq Champion (Beaumont, CA) garnered the award for the men.

In her first meet of the year after completing her basketball season, Ta'amu uncorked the nation's best mark in the Shot Put at 43' ½" to finish second at the Redlands Invitational.  In addition, she came in 11th place in the Hammer Throw with a heave of 125' 7" and took 12th in the Discus with a mark of 108' 9" among the elite competitors from a variety of levels.

For the men, Champion won the High Jump with a stellar height of 6' 2 ¾" to now rank second in the nation.  He collects the Bulldogs' second athlete of the week award for men's track & field following first-year Tucker Cargile's distinction earlier this month.

The Bulldogs hauled in a total of three athletes of the week, with senior Caroline Ordian (Palm Desert, CA) receiving the distinction for women's golf.
