Redlands Track & Field Reels in USTFCCCA All-Academic Recognition

It was recently announced that six student-athletes from the University of Redlands track & field program earned All-Academic honors through the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). In addition, the men's and women's squads each met the criteria to be recognized as an All-Academic Team.

To receive USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher, have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, and finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 in a relay event.

For the Bulldogs, senior Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA), freshman Vanessa Blanchard (Palmdale, CA), sophomore Alison Smith (McKinnleyville, CA), and junior Lauren Roberts (Portland, OR) represent the women, while senior Taylor Browning (Carbondale, CO) and sophomore Auston Tribble (Glenwood Springs, CO) earned the honors for the men's team.

M. Smith capped off her illustrious high-jumping career by becoming an All-American at the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships with an eighth-place effort during her inaugural appearance. With a school-record and conference-tying mark of 5' 8", she qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships for the third time in her tenure. She placed 20th at the 2015 national meet with a mark of 5' 2 ½". She recently completed her degree in Business Administration.

Blanchard reached the NCAA Outdoor Championships in her first year of competition with the Bulldogs, placing 12th with a leap of 5' 4 ¼".

A. Smith advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships by snagging the 20th spot in the Heptathlon with a qualifying score of 4,365 points. During the national meet, she improved one slot for 19th overall with 4,318 points in her first-ever NCAA appearance.

Roberts impressed during the conference's inaugural season of competing in the 10,000 Meters, earning the 30th-fastest time in NCAA Division III at 36:53.41, which came in first-place fashion at the Redlands Final Qualifying Meet.

On the men's side, Browning earned All-America status at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as part of the Bulldogs' 4x100 Relay that placed second with a school-record time of 40.55. He and Tribble also contributed to the Maroon and Gray's 4x400 Relay that ranked 21st in the nation with a time of 3:14.38. Browning recently graduated with a degree in Biology.

As a unit, the Bulldog women collected the distinction of USTFCCCA All-Academic Team by earning a combined GPA of 3.58. They join 169 other NCAA Division III women's programs in this honor.

With a combined GPA of 3.15, the men also earned the team honor as one of 99 men's programs from NCAA Division III.
