Bulldogs Shine at Redlands Track & Field Invitational

The University of Redlands track & field teams competed in their own Redlands Invitational on Friday, allowing multiple members to gain various experiences in different events.

For the women, the Bulldogs gained a unique trio of event-winners to highlight the meet. 

Senior Vainayaki Sivaji (North Hollywood, CA) impressed in the 200 Meters with her winning time of 25.48.  Fellow senior Ashley Lively (Las Vegas, NV) quickly followed for second place in 25.80. 

Sophomore Alexandra Blalock (Indian Wells, CA) cleared the top height of 5' 5 ¾" in the High Jump to win the event, with sophomore Maddie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) taking second with a mark of 5' 3 ¾". 

Finally, the 4x400 Relay of Blalock, Amy Pumputis, Sivaji, and Lively rounded out the winning trio, as it fired off a time of 3:57.32 to blow by the competition with a cushion of more than 15 seconds.

Additional highlights include freshman Meghan Gressel's (Loyalton, CA) third-place showing in the 400 Hurdles, completing the lap in 1:12.67.

The Bulldogs also saw strong performances in the field events, with senior Christina Donovan (Beaverton, OR) and sophomore Merritt ten Hope (Phoenix, AZ) tying for third in the Pole Vault at 10' 11 ¾".

Freshman McKenzie Wolf (Big Bear Lake, CA) enjoyed a solid first home meet by uncorking a third-place toss in the Discus at 105' 4". 

Junior Jazzmin Altamira (Winnetka, CA) led off a trio of quality showings in the Hammer, taking second with her heave of 126' 6".  In addition, freshman Kylie Scott (Snohomish, WA) posted a third-place mark of 121' 1" and Wolf rounded out the group with her fourth-place effort of 120' 10".

On the men's side, the Maroon and Gray also gained three first-place tallies.

Senior Tom Marshall (Hillsboro, OR) headed up a quartet of top finishers in the 800 Meters, posting the winning time of 1:57.87.  Freshman Jonathan DeGroot (San Leandro, CA) and sophomore Dominic Lopez (Las Vegas, NV) quickly followed with their sub-two-minute performances of 1:58.72 and 1:59.02, respectively, while junior Derik Harrison (Centennial, CO) took fourth with his mark of 2:02.04.

Senior Bryan Artmann (Henderson, NV) reset his career record in the Pole Vault by clearing 16' 1 ¼" for the top mark of the meet.  Senior Cory Colbath (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) recorded a mark of 15' 0" for second place.

Furthermore, the 4x400 Relay of sophomore Taylor Browning (Carbondale, CO), DeGroot, Marshall and senior Daniel Wallengren (Calabasas, CA) put together a winning time of 3:20.80.

In addition, Browning shined in the 200 Meters, unleashing a time of 21.79 for second place as the fastest of 10 Bulldog competitors in this race.

Rounding out the team's top-three showings, sophomore Chris Bolt (Reno, NV) completed the 1500 Meters in 4:09.12, senior Spencer Dellhime (Highland, CA) recorded a leap of 41' 4 ½" in the Triple Jump, and junior Chris Bode (Elk, WA) fired off a distance of 176' 0" in the Javelin.

Redlands looks forward to competing at home again on March 23, when Whittier College hosts the SCIAC Multi-Dual Meet on Ashel Cunnigham Track, beginning at 11 a.m.
