Redlands Track & Field Programs Collect USTFCCCA Team All-Academic Plaudits

Earlier this week the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced that the men's and women's track programs at the University of Redlands both nabbed the academic team honor, meeting a minimum of a 3.10 cumulative grade-point average. The Bulldog men's squad was one of 64 teams to earn the scholastic award, recording a combined mark of 3.20, while the Bulldog women notched a 3.43 GPA as one of 111 qualified teams.

Earlier this season, the men's team made history by dethroning rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges from its 19-year reign as conference champion, winning the Bulldogs' first conference title since 1964. The squad continued its great efforts at the NCAA Championships where 10 individuals represented Redlands and finished tied for 14th overall.

In addition, it was recently announced that freshman Seth Drake (Ramona, CA), senior Tim Hoesterey (La Quinta, CA), sophomore Tommy Marshall (Hillsboro, OR) and junior Richard Nakaoka (Manhattan Beach, CA) each collected individual All-Academic accolades from the USTFCCCA.

The Maroon and Gray women also put together a stellar season in 2011, garnering a share of the conference title with CMS while sending seven individuals to the NCAA Championships.

Led by seniors Kelsey Bermudez (La Verne, CA), Mackenzie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) and Kortney Watring (Riverside, CA), the Bulldogs had seven women collect individual USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades late last week.  In addition, junior Emily Canales (Redlands, CA), sophomores Ashley Lively (Las Vegas, NV) and Samantha Rivera (Thousand Oaks, CA), as well as freshman Hannah Minderhout (Santa Monica, CA), represented Redlands among the honorees.
