It was announced on May 29 by USA Track & Field (USATF) that University of Redlands Head Track & Field Coach Mike Schmidt and Assistant Track & Field Coach Angelo Posillico have been invited to participate in the USATF/US Olympic Committee (USOC) Emerging Elite Coaches "Learn by Doing" Training Camp on June 28-July 3. The camp takes place at the US Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA.

Designed for high school, club or college coaches who have enjoyed success at the state and national levels, the program involves intensive science-based study and hands-on application in several different areas. The camp helps coaches gain advanced information, strategies and tactics that enable them to instruct at the elite levels of competition, including the Olympic Games and World Championships.

Schmidt looks forward to attending the Jumps/Pole Vault section of the camp, while Posillico takes on the Throws portion.

Participants of this camp were chosen based on experience and application materials.
