Junior Mackenzie Smith Finishes Seventh at NCAA Championships, Earns Third All-America Nod

Junior Mackenzie Smith (Hoquiam, WA) of the University of Redlands competed in the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Tressel Field at Finnie Stadium in Berea, Ohio, earlier today and finished seventh in the women's Javelin Throw with a season-best heave of 142' 9".

Smith made a preliminary toss of 135' 10" during the trials and then improved her mark by nearly seven feet in the final round.

By finishing among the top eight, she earns All-America honors for the third time in her career. After coming in sixth during her rookie campaign at 138' 8", she took third at the 2009 NCAA Championships with a mark of 140' 7".

Smith entered this year's event with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 141' 9", which she made at the SCIAC Championship meet on May 1 to win the conference title by more than a foot.

Sophomore Amanda Trieloff of Carroll University (WI) won the 2010 NCAA Javelin Throw title with a heave of 150' 4".

In addition to Smith, the Bulldogs are represented by senior Onesa Bowman (Pomona, CA) in the 400m Dash and freshman Ashley Lomax (Hillsboro, OR) in the 100m Hurdles. Lomax and Bowman both compete in the trials for their respective events on Friday afternoon. The three heat winners plus the next five best runners advance to the finals on Saturday.
