Redlands Swim & Dive Falls to Nationally Ranked Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC Dual

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming & Diving teams took on nationally ranked Pomona-Pitzer (No. 9 – Women | No. 13 – Men) Saturday morning inside the Thompson Aquatic Center.  The men competed really well narrowly falling 171-108, while the women would drop a 198-78 decision.

The Bulldogs are now 1-1 on the season in dual meets, beating the University of La Verne on both sides last week.    

Men

The Bulldog men posted five wins and six more runners-up finishes. Their five podium finishes came in the 200 Free, 50 Free, 200 Breast, 400 IM, and the 400 Free Relay.

Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) won the 200 Free with a time of 1:46.11, 0.36 ahead of the second place finisher. Jack Forsythe (Ladera Ranch, CA) picked up the 50 Free victory in 22.22, a 0.43 winning margin. The Bulldogs got the win in the 200 Breast thanks to Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA). Walker won in 2:11.7 and had a :7.27 second margin of victory. Walker also added a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:25.00, 3.40 seconds ahead of teammate and second-place finisher Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR). Then in the 400 Free Relay, the top three teams were all Redlands', with Forsythe, Memphis Gile (Highland, CA)Thomas Long (Brea, CA), and Eddow winning the event in 3:13.66.

The five other runner-up finishes included Tom Jansen (Pleasant Hill, CA) in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:55.89, Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) in the 200 Fly in 2:01.52, Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV) in the 200 Back with a time of 2:02.35, Eddow in the 500 Free in 4:52.40, and the Bulldog B-Team in the 400 Free Relay where Jansen, Chir, Scott Shim (Seoul, South Korea), and Heaston swam a 3:25.31 time.

Women

On the women's side they won two events and took second place five times. Their wins came in the 400 IM courtesy of Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA) in 5:09.52 and the 400 Free Relay that featured Lauren Kline (Lone Tree, CO)Emily Walos (Redlands, CA), and Leila Alejos (Portland, OR) who took home the win in 3:59.61.

The five runner-up finishes came in the 1000 Free by Gabrielle Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) in 11:27.87, the 1-Meter with Violet Schultz (Aurora, CO) posting a score of 198.25, the 200 Breast with Morgan Felix (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) swimming to a 2:38.64, Sydney Cordova (Roseville, CA) in the 400 IM posting a 5:25.86, and the Bulldogs C-Team that included Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA)Sarah Szafranski (Houston, TX)Fernanda Garcia (Irapuato, Guanajuato, Mexico), and Cordova who combined to swim a time of 4:11.92.

Redlands will return to the pool on Saturday-Sunday, November 19-20 with a four-team meet that includes Caltech, Cal Lutheran, and Occidental.  It will be hosted by Occidental College and will include two match-ups with SCIAC Dual points on the line where the Bulldogs will go up against the Tigers and Beavers.
