REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving teams are ready to compete at the 2021-22 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at Splash! (La Mirada Regional Aquatic Center) Wednesday-Saturday, February 16-19 in La Mirada, Calif.

Over the past five years the Bulldogs have impressed at the SCIAC Championships with the men finishing 3rd three times (2018-19, 2016-17, 2015-16) and 4th twice (2019-20, 2017-18), while the women have taken 3rd twice (2015-16, 2016-17), 4th twice (2017-18, 2019-20), and most recently 5th (2019-20).

The Bulldog men will be looking to win their first SCIAC team title since 2007, while the women will try and win their first in 20 years, with their last coming in 2002.

Individually the men look to collect a SCIAC Athlete of the Year or SCIAC Newcomer of the Year for the first time since Zach Amendola was named the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year in 2016. For the women, their last major individual award winner was Sami Scarano in 2020 when she was named the SCIAC Diver of the Year.

Qualifying

For an individual to automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III National Championships they must hit the Standard A time. If all the qualification slots are not filled with athletes that have a Standard A time, then athletes with the best remaining times that hit the Standard B time will get an invite to the NCAA Championships. If an athlete qualifies in one event, they can enter any other events if they have a Standard B time in that event. For example, if they qualify in the 50 free, then they can race any event that they have a Standard B time in.

For relay teams to qualify the same rules above apply, but the school must have one swimmer or diver already in the championships for the relay team to be invited. The team may include any swimmers the school wants (qualified or not as it's a team event not individual), the school just must have an athlete already qualified in any individual event.

For the Bulldogs, Sydney Patterson has already qualified for the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals, so the Bulldogs will have an opportunity to qualify their relay teams.
