U of R Swim & Dive Totals 22 Victories against Chapman in Dual Meet

REDLANDS, Calif. – It has been almost three months since the University of Redlands Swim & Dive team has competed inside the Thompson Aquatic Center and Saturday they returned sweeping Chapman University in a SCIAC Dual Meet.

The Bulldogs rolled past the Panthers combining for 22 victories with the women winning 151-43 and the men 123-55.

Women

For the second straight week Sydney Patterson (Hilo, HI) won the 1-Meter and 3-Meter boards.  She started the morning off posting a 251.20 on the 1-Meter before returning mid-meet to win the 3-Meter with a 255.45.  The first swimming event on the day, the 200 Medley Relay got things started as the team of Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), Hanna Parker (Seattle, WA), Madison Petschauer (Cary, NC), and Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) would post a 1:50.37.  The 'B' team followed eight seconds later with a time of 1:58.12 consisting of Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA), Morgan Felix (Burnt Hills, NY), Mary Tanouye (Kiel, WI), and Emily Heaston (Corona, CA).

In the distance Andrea Brenstrom (Shrewsbury, MA) and Gaby Hayon (Agoura Hills, CA) went 1-2 in the 1650 Free with times of 18:54.72 and 19:07.69, respectively.  Then came the 200 Free where the Bulldogs went 1-4 on the finishes with Nakagawa coming in first with a time of 2:02.52, followed by Anna O'Meara (Clovis, CA) (2nd – 2:08.03), Sarah Szafranski (Houston, TX) (3rd – 2:09.89), and Emma Jones (Atlanta, GA) (4th – 2:12.97).

Parenti returned in the 50 Free to take top marks with a 25.44.  Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) (26.19), Lauren Kline (Parker, CO) (26.40), and Courtney Prefontaine (San Clemente, CA) (26.53) then took 3-5.  Petschauer and Madison Southmayd (Anthem, AZ) went 1-2 in the 400 IM with times of 4:46.83 and 4:57.33, respectively and Felix would come in 4th with a time of 5:09.61.  Petschauer picked up another win in the 100 Fly (58.43) beating out Parenti who took 2nd (1:00.24) and Springer who finished 4th (1:01.97).  Southmayd led four Bulldogs in the 100 Free winning the event with a 56.39, while Setlich (57.88), Brenstrom (58.50), and Szafranski (59.67) finished 3-5.

Five Bulldogs went 1-5 in the 100 Back led by Nakagawa who won with a 1:00.70.  She was followed by Kline (1:03.80), Prefontaine (1:03.87), Springer (1:04.21), and Hayon (1:04.49).  In the 500 Free Jones beat out Sydney Britton (Tacoma, WA) for the 1-2 spots posting times of 5:41.89 and 5:45.04.  Parker, Southmayd, and Felix went 2-3-4 in the 100 Breast with times of 1:07.36, 1:08.48, and 1:12.16.  Then in the final event on the day, the 200 Free Relay, the 'A' team of O'Meara, Szafranski, Kline, and Setlich took home the top time with a 1:45.28 to beat out the 'B' team of Leila Alejos (Portland, OR), Hayon, Tanouye, and Prefontaine.                               

Men

The 'A' team in the 200 Medley Relay got the scoring started for the Maroon and Grey winning the event with a 1:38.21 thanks to Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA), Daniel Bajda (Lombard, IL), Jack Forsythe (Ladera Ranch, CA), and Thomas Long (Brea, CA)Tom Jansen (Pleasant Hill, CA) then followed coming from behind in the 1650 Free to beat out Zach Waddell of Chapman with a time of 16:57.32.

Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA) then got into the mix in the 200 Free taking the top time with a 1:46.88 beating out Drew Heaston (Corona, CA) (2nd – 1:47.14), Chris Loudon (Anchorage, AK) (3rd – 1:49.80), and Andrew Sorensen (Long Beach, CA) (4th – 1:52.54).  Four Bulldogs went 1-4 in the 50 Free with T. Long touching first with a time of 22.12.  He was followed closely by Forsythe (22.46), Bajda (22.78), and Andres Martinez (Beaumont, CA) (22.82).  Walker and Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR) took home the top two times in the 400 IM, respectively with a 4:13.52 and a 4:21.22.

Heaston had a big race in the 100 Fly winning with a 53.33, while Forsythe and Owen Nishimura (Carlsbad, CA) went 5-6 with times of 56.73 and 59.32.  Gile returned in the 100 Free to win another event with a top time of a 48.55, while Loudon took 2nd (50.93), and Zack Gissel (Beaumont, CA) 4th (51.23).  Jack Ryan (Ventura, CA) was the only Bulldog to score in the 100 Back taking 5th with a 1:17.73 and Ron Gvishi (Albany, CA) was edged in the 500 Free after posting a 5:03.77, which put him 2nd.  Walker, Bajda, and T. Long went 1-2-3 in the 100 Breast with times of 58.17, 1:01.57, and 1:01.88.  Then in the final event on the day, the 200 Free Relay, the 'A' team of Gile, Loudon, Gvishi, and Heaston would take home the top finish with a 1:29.73, which was followed closely by the 'B' team of Gissel, Sorensen, Jansen, and Martinez who took 3rd (1:32.33).                                

Redlands returns to the pool next Saturday, February 5 for their Senior Meet when they host Whittier College and Cal Lutheran University for a tri-meet beginning at 10:30am.
