Redlands Rewind with Sydney Nakagawa: February 20-23, 2020

This week's Redlands Rewind highlights the 2020 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming Championships on February 20-23, 2020, as junior Sydney Nakagawa's most memorable meet.

"SCIACS always has so much energy from everyone on the pool deck... Even though it is rewarding to have good swims, I think what makes it the best is the team atmosphere. It is so heartwarming to have people always there to cheer you on and watch you swim, as well as seeing everyone's hard work pay off."

Nakagawa specifically recalled the 200 Medley Relay, which is the very first relay and race of the meet.

"...everyone is super excited and everyone on the team was there to hype us up and to top it off we ended up getting the school record in that event."  Nakagawa swam with Julia Hagenbaumer '20, junior Makenna Parenti, and senior Olivia Cano to earn a third-place time of 1:45.74, which was more than five seconds faster than their seed time and a school record.

"The second most memorable swim for me at that meet was on the last day in the evening when I swam my individual 200 Back; I had many of my teammates at both ends of the pool, ready to cheer me on, and I finished the race by breaking the school record and walking away with best times in all of my events,"  Nakagawa added.
