Senior Julia Hagenbaumer Tops Podium for an Impressive Day Three of the SCIAC Swimming & Diving Championships

Highlighted by a first-place performance by senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) in the 100 Breast, the women competed in five finals, while the men appeared in seven on day three on the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships. Through day three, the women currently have 321 points in fifth place, while the men sit in third with 430 points.

In a photo finish where the top-five finishers were determined by .79 seconds of the 100 Breast finals, Hagenbaumer out-reached the pool with a gold-medal time of 1:04.04 for her first All-Conference performance of the day. Sophomores Madison Southmayd (Anthem, AZ) and Hanna Parker (Seattle, WA) joined Hagenbaumer in the 100 Breast final with sixth and ninth-place times of 1:07.40 and 1:09.29, respectively.

Hagenbaumer went on to join forces with sophomores Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) and Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA), and junior Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) in the 400 Medley Relay for a third-place performance in a time of 3:54.07.

Stemming from the All-Conference relay team, Parenti went on to snag seventh place in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57.86, while Nakagawa shaved .21 seconds off of her prelim time in the 100 Back to claim fifth place by stopping the clock in 57.41.

For the men, seniors Anthony Gutierrez (Ontario, CA) and Kyle Jackson (Naperville, IL) teamed up with sophomores Derrick Garcia (Orinda, CA) and Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA) for the highest finish of the day with a fourth-place time of 3:25.23 in the 400 Relay.

Garcia and senior Matt Skinner represented the Maroon and Gray in the 100 Fly final in sixth and ninth place, respectively. Garcia stopped the clock in 50.61, while Skinner touched the wall in 51.09.

After a strong SCIAC Championship debut yesterday, first-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) took sixth in the 200 Free final with a time of 1:41.12. Junior Rafael Zasas (Johannesburg, South Africa) improved his prelim time to collect ninth-place points for the Bulldogs with a time of 1:41.97.

Jackson dove back in the pool later in the day to touch the wall in seventh in the 100 Breast in a time of 57.49, while junior Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA) was right behind in eighth with a time of 57.52.

Redlands wraps up the SCIAC Championships tomorrow, Sunday, February 23, with action kicking off at 9 a.m. in Commerce.
