Redlands Swim and Dive Competes against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Simon Fraser University in Saturday's Meet

The University of Redlands men's and women's swimming and diving teams headed to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges this morning for multi-dual against the host, Sagehens and Simon Fraser University (BC, CAN). Amongst tough competition, the men finished in second against both schools with scores of 60 and 49 respectively. The women also came in second against both schools, scoring 82 against SFU and 59 against Pomona-Pitzer.

Juniors Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR), Eric Forbes (Ladera Ranch, CA), Jack McCormick (Santa Rosa, CA) and sophomore Derrick Garcia (Orinda, CA) teamed up for a fourth-place finish in the 200 Medley Relay, touching the wall in 1:39.38 for points to start the day for Redlands.

McCormick also performed well in the 50 Free snagging second place with a time of 22.11. First-year Jack Forsythe (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA), and sophomores Tanner Gish (La Canada, CA) and Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA) followed in fourth, fifth, and sixth place for a solid Bulldog showing.

Later in the meet, Garcia touched the wall in 54.99 for fifth place in the 100 Fly. Senior Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA) and Ayers packed a two-three punch in the 100 Free finishing in 47.92 and 47.97 respectively.

Rounding out the day for the men, Talag, Forsythe, senior Carson Brett (Exeter, CA) and first-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) teamed up in the 200 Free Relay for third place. The quartet clocked in at 1:28.14.

On the women's side, senior diver Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) snagged the second spot off the three-meter board and the one-meter board with scores of 209.85 and 201.60 respectively.

The women's 200 Medley Relay team made up of senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) and sophomores Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), Mary Tanouye (Kiel, WI), and Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) also performed well with a fourth-place time of 1:54.08.

In the 100 IM, junior Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) and Hagenbaumer touched the wall in 1:04.17 and 1:04.69 for fourth and fifth place respectively.  

In the next event, sophomore Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) turned in a third-place time of 1:00.61 in the 100 Fly to add points for the Maroon and Gray.

A little later on, Hagenbaumer had the women's best finish of the day with a second-place showing in the 100 Breast. She out-touched the competition in 1:07.20. Cano followed close behind with a fourth-place finish of 1:08.98.

The women rounded out the day with a solid 200 Free Relay. Parenti teamed up with sophomore Emily Heaston (Corona, CA), and first-years Gaby Hayon (Westlake Village, CA) and Leila Alejos (Portland, OR) with a 1:45.75 time and fourth place.

The team welcomes Caltech and Chapman to the Thompson Aquatic Center on Saturday, January 11 for an 11 a.m. meet.
