The University of Redlands swim and dive teams dominated their duals against Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent, Whittier College, last Saturday, with the men winning 162-37 and the women posting a 152-73 victory.

In the first event of the day, senior Anthony Gutierrez (Ontario, CA), sophomore Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA), sophomore Derrick Garcia (Orinda, CA) and junior Rafael Zasas (Johannesburg, South Africa) teamed up for the 400 Medley Relay and took first with a time of 3:41.51.

Garcia went on to win the 200 Fly in 2:04.49, while Ayers (2:03.90) took second in the 200 Individual Medley behind teammate, first-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) (2:01.58).

Sophomore Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA), senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL), sophomore Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA), and sophomore Jacqueline Setlich (Laguna Niguel, CA) followed the men's 400 MR victory with a 400 Medley Relay win of their own, posting a combined time of 4:05.86.

Nakagawa also won the 50 Free with a time of 25.33 seconds and Setlich won the 100 Free by touching the wall in 56.10.  Hagenbaumer also had an individual victory, taking the 200 Back in 2:30.78.

First-year Jack Forsythe (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) posted a 21.74 second 50 Free time to take first, while Zasas was right on his tail finishing in 22.27. The pair teamed up with Ayers and junior Jack McCormick (Santa Rosa, CA) for the 200 Free Relay, winning the event in 1:27.07.  It gave McCormick his second win of the day after he out-touched the competitors in the 100 Free with a time of 48.59 seconds.

Senior diver Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards with 228.65 and 199.40 respective scores.

The Bulldogs head to the SCIAC Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24 in Pasadena, CA.
