Redlands Swimming Opens 2019-20 Season with Annual Bulldog Pentathlon

The University of Redlands swimming teams jumped into action at the Thompson Aquatic Center on Saturday by hosting the annual Bulldog Pentathlon, which features 100 yards of each stroke for a collective time to determine the men's and women's winners.    

Highlighting the teams' early-season outing, first-year Blake Eddow (Corona, CA) finished third overall with a five-event time of 4:34.77, while junior Olivia Cano (Dublin, CA) swam to sixth place overall with a time of 5:20.41.  Eddow posted three top-five times, with his best result coming in the 100 Individual Medley with a third-place effort of 47.94.  He also took fourth in the 100 Fly (53.33) and fifth in the 100 Back (55.54).  Cano recorded a fifth-place time of 1:03.52 in the 100 IM and touched the wall sixth in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:10.32.

In addition, the men gained solid finishes from sophomore Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA), who won the 100 Free by touching the wall in 47.35.  He also tallied a fourth-place time of 55.11 in the 100 IM and a fifth-place showing in the 100 Breast by completing the race in 1:02.37.

Furthermore, junior Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR) registered a collective time of 4:49.52 to take 18th overall, while first-year Chris Loudon (Anchorage, AK) quickly followed in 19th with a total of 4:50.41.

Sophomore Sydney Nakagawa (Vancouver, WA) impressed with three top-10 results for an overall tally of 5:26.73 for 12th place.  She finished third in the 100 Back by earning a time of 1:03.15 to go along with a ninth-place showing of 1:04.67 in the 100 IM and a 10th-place effort of 56.58 in the 100 Free.

First-years Leila Alejos (Portland, OR) and Gaby Hayon (Westlake Village, CA) recorded respective times of 5:30.76 and 5:30.79 to earn 16th and 17th place in their collegiate debuts.

Finally, sophomore Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) shined in the 100 Fly by touching the wall with a silver-medal time of 1:00.35, as senior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) impressed in the 100 Breast with her bronze result in 1:09.52.

Redlands looks forward to hosting its Alumni Gathering during Homecoming on Saturday, October 26, before taking on Concordia University – Irvine on Saturday, November 2, in a non-conference bout at the Thompson Aquatic Center, beginning at 11 a.m.
