Redlands Swimming Breaks Records in Solid Showing on Day Three of SCIAC Championships

The University of Redlands swimming teams shined during day three of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship on Saturday at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center. With the teams' success, the Bulldog women climbed into fourth place with 343 points, while the men secured their third-place position with 380 points.

Senior Wendy McAleer (Simi Valley, CA) captured the Bulldogs' first All-SCIAC time of the night with her school-record and NCAA Division III "B" cut time of 55.94 in the 100 Fly. She improved upon the previous Bulldog standard of 56.89, which was set in 2016 by Ellie Jaques. McAleer finished third in the speedy race. Sophomore August Key (Albuquerque, NM) also swam well in that final with a time of 57.10 for sixth place, while first-year Makenna Parenti (Rocklin, CA) clocked a 57.77 in the consolation final for second place.

Another Redlands record fell when junior Julia Hagenbaumer (Naperville, IL) uncorked a time of 1:05.16 in the 100 Breast, which placed her fifth at the meet. She improves upon another one of Jaques' records, with this one previously established at 1:05.33 in 2015.

For the men, first-year Samuel Ayers (Orinda, CA) captured an All-SCIAC time of 1:41.29 in the 200 Free for third place, while senior Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) swam an impressive time of 1:41.09 to win the consolation final.

First-year Derrick Garcia (Orinda, CA) just missed out on the podium in the 100 Fly with his fourth-place mark of 50.23. During the consolation final, Redlands secured big points with a 2-3-4 finish that included junior Matt Skinner (Lakewood, CA), first-year Anders Stenfjord (Shoreline, WA), and senior Lucas Ulmer (Camas, WA), with respective times of 51.48, 51.62, and 51.78.

During the 400 Individual Medley, first-year Lucas Walker (Mountain View, CA) swam a 4:04.52 for sixth place in the final. Sophomore Jordan Convery (Fairview, OR) won the consolation final with a time of 4:10.30.

Redlands finishes out the SCIAC Championships on Sunday, February 24, with the preliminaries at 9 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs compete in the 1650 Free, 200 Back, 100 Free, 200 Breast, 200 Fly, and 400 Free Relay.
