The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams celebrated their seniors on Saturday, as they competed at the Thompson Aquatic Center for the final time in their Bulldog careers. With a total-team effort, the Redlands women topped the competition to secure a 139-82 win over Chapman University and a 135-89 victory against Cal Lutheran University. The Bulldog men split results by prevailing over Chapman, 185-26, but losing a close one to Cal Lutheran, 103-117.
The women dominated the one-meter diving competition by sweeping the top three spots. Freshman Sami Scarano (Boulder, CO) took first with a score of 232.85, with senior Jessica Kolsky (Red Wing, MN) earning a second-place score of 226.10 and junior Lindsay Nichols (Arroyo Grande, CA) taking third with a total of 210.40. Kolsky repeated her finish on the three-meter board by tallying 246.45 points, while Scarano came in third with 209.70 points.
The Bulldogs' success continued in the 200 Medley Relay, as senior Danielle Miller (Hood River, OR), junior Claire Stuhr (Portland, OR), senior Ellie Jaques (Covina, CA), and junior Emily Waddell (Bellevue, WA) combined forces to win the race in 1:51.92.
Jaques also took home the gold in the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:40.20, before touching the wall first in the 100 Fly by earning the only sub-minute mark of 58.22. Stuhr joined her on the podium for the 400 IM with her second-place time of 4:44.47.
Waddell added to the team's hardware by clocking a first-place time of 54.75, while Stuhr won the 100 Breast with a time of 1:10.92.
In addition, freshman Taylor Cadile (San Jose, CA) finished second in the 200 Free (2:02.21), as Waddell earned the silver in the 50 Free with a time of 24.85.
On the men's side, freshman Jacob Miner (Antioch, CA) won both diving competitions with a one-meter score of 268.20 and a three-meter total of 240.60. Senior Miko Mallari (Palo Alto, CA) added a pair of second-place showings with respective tallies of 228.20 and 217.50.
The 200 Medley Relay of sophomore Joe Widuch (Naperville, IL), freshman Cortlandt Nelsen (Beaverton, OR), senior Eric Bugna (Vancouver, WA), and sophomore Aaron Bauer (Garden Grove, CA) put together a winning time of 1:38.69 to start things off right in the swimming events. Senior Will Tyrrell (Portland, OR), freshman Carter Kerwin (Bakersfield, CA), freshman Matt Skinner (Lakewood, CA), and frshman Kyle Jackson (Naperville, IL) completed the 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs by taking second with a time of 1:42.69.
Widuch also excelled in the 100 Back by clocking the fastest time of the race at 54.23. Junior Brian Wright (Kent, WA) added a first-place effort in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:01.38, as Jackson closely followed in 1:02.35.
Finally, Wright repeated his results in the 400 IM by topping the competition with a time of 4:21.76.
The Bulldogs closed out the meet with a second-place performance by the 400 Free Relay of freshman Michael Talag (Lakewood, CA), Tyrrell, freshman Carson Brett (Exeter, CA), and Wright, which touched the wall in 3:17.17.
Redlands looks forward to competing in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Wednesday, February 15, through Saturday, February 18, in Commerce.
