Gladys is All-America Again, Bulldog Swimming Teams Move up on Day 3 of NCAAs

The University of Redlands swimming & diving teams finished up day three of the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships Friday evening at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN. After the third day of competition, the Bulldog women have moved into a tie for 39th place with seven points, while the Redlands men have advanced into a tie for 13th place with 55 points.

Sophomore Collin Gladys (Yorba Linda, CA) earned All-America laurels for the second time during the meet with a fifth-place time of 55.29 in the men's 100 breaststroke. Both Gladys' preliminary swim (55.69) and his finals time cleared the program record of 56.13, which he set at the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 22. Gladys won the national title in the men's 200 individual medley on Wednesday evening.

Both the women's and men's 800 freestyle relay teams captured Honorable Mention All-America honors. Freshman Allie Bollella (Palo Alto, CA), sophomores Casey Sripramong (Glendale, CA) and McKenzie Nakamura (Kenmore, WA) and freshman Lauren Zehner (Portland, OR) combined to clock a 15th-place 7:46.14 in the women's 800 freestyle relay, while the quartet of junior Alec Alders (Los Angeles, CA), freshman Chris Depew (Naperville, IL), senior Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA) and sophomore Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) placed 13th in the men's 800 freestyle relay (6:49.62).

A handful of swimmers competed in the morning session but did not qualify for finals. Depew finished 24th in the men's 200 butterfly (1:57.08), Zehner took 29th in the women's 200 butterfly (2:10.20), freshman Jessica Medvec (Tualatin, OR) claimed 34th in the women's 100 backstroke (1:01.78) and Nakamura placed 29th in the women's 100 breaststroke (1:07.34).

Those who place first through eighth are given All-America recognition, while those who place ninth through 16th garner Honorable Mention All-America status.

The 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships, hosted jointly by Beloit College (WI) and the College of Wooster (OH), occur from Wednesday (March 17) through Saturday (March 20) at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN. Saturday's events include: the women's and men's 1650 freestyle, the women's and men's 100 freestyle, the women's and men's 200 backstroke, the women's and men's 200 breaststroke, the women's 3-meter diving and the men's and women's 400 freestyle relay.
