Bulldog Swimming & Diving Concludes Day 2 of NCAA Championships

The University of Redlands women's and men's swimming & diving teams wrapped up the second day of competition at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday evening at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, MN. Midway through the meet, Redlands' women are tied for 40th with three points, while the men sit in a tie for 15th with 33 points.

Freshman Allie Bollella (Palo Alto, CA) was the lone Bulldog woman to swim in the evening session after uncorking a program-record-setting 1:51.55 in the preliminary heats of the women's 200 freestyle. Bollella's morning performance reset her former standard of 1:52.33, which she established at the 2010 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 22. Bollella then turned in a 14th-place 1:52.83 in the consolation final to gain Honorable Mention All-America laurels.

Sophomore Tyler Harp (San Bernardino, CA) qualified for the consolation final in the men's 200 freestyle and finished 13th, tapping in at 1:41.22. By virtue of his place, he earned Honorable Mention All-America recognition.

Two Bulldog relays made it back to the night session. The foursome of sophomore Collin Gladys (Yorba Linda, CA), senior Ryan Floersch (San Jose, CA), freshman Matt Zaggy (University City, MO) and Harp combined for a 15th-place time of 1:24.71 in the men's 200 freestyle relay, while the quartet of junior Alec Alders (Los Angeles, CA), Depew, Floersch and Zaggy claimed 16th in the men's 400 medley relay (3:37.87). Both squads achieved Honorable Mention All-America status.

A handful of swimmers competed in the morning session but did not qualify for finals. Depew took 25th in the men's 400 individual medley (4:09.63), freshman Lauren Zehner (Portland, OR) placed 18th in the women's 100 butterfly (57.26) and Alders picked up 20th in the men's 200 freestyle (1:41.22).

A pair of Bulldog women's relays placed outside of the top 16 in the morning heats. The contingent of freshman Jessica Medvec (Tualatin, OR), sophomore Casey Sripramong (Glendale, CA), sophomore McKenzie Nakamura (Kenmore, WA) and Bollella nabbed 20th in the women's 200 freestyle relay (1:38.71), while the squad of Medvec, Nakamura, Zehner and Bollella captured 17th in the women's 400 medley relay (3:57.57).

Those who place first through eighth are given All-America recognition, while those who place ninth through 16th garner Honorable Mention All-America status.
