REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Softball team opened up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament Friday afternoon as the No. 1 seed, but came out flat falling 10-0 to No. 4 Pomona-Pitzer.

This forces the Bulldogs into a win or go home situation tomorrow, Saturday, May 7 on Day 2 action of the SCIAC Tournament when they take on No. 3 University of La Verne.  If they win they will then advance to the afternoon game where they will take on the winner of the second game on the day.

Redlands is now 22-13, 15-6 SCIAC and now find themselves in an uphill climb in order to win the SCIAC Tournament and earn that AQ bid into the NCAA Division III National Championships.

It was a strong start for Danielle Stallings (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA) who threw three innings scoreless, while surrendering just two hits during that span.  It was then in the fourth when the Sagehens got on the scoreboard with a four spot, which is all they needed.  They loaded the bases with a walk, an error and a base hit on the infield and after that they continued to find the openings adding another three base knocks to move the score to 4-0.

After a scoreless fifth Pomona-Pitzer was able to tack on another run, this time capitalizing on an error by the first baseman.  Then in the seventh PP put the game out of reach bringing across five runs on four hits, highlighted by a three run shot from Brajkovic to right center.  They also used another two Bulldog miscues to make it a double-digit lead.

The Maroon and Grey struggled to find their offense gathering just four hits on the day, three of which were doubles coming from Alexis Campos (Lake Forest, CA), Collette Allen (Sierra Madre, CA), Annabelle Gutierrez (Gilroy, CA), and Stallings.  Stallings picked up the loss and drops to 13-4 on the season.  She threw 5.2 Innings giving up five runs (three earned) on nine hits.
